Satire · About
About us, allegedly.
A fictional organization with a real point of view: surveillance is not supervision, and a score is not a source.
AWARE-ish is a parody of school board agenda surveillance products, including Moms for Liberty’s AWARE program. Moms for Monitoring is a fictional organization. Every district, school board, teacher, parent, quote, alert, case file, and press release on this site is invented. Nothing here is affiliated with, endorsed by, or a factual claim about Moms for Liberty or any real person or institution.
The anxiety the product exploits is real. That is what this site is about. If you want to influence your school board, read the agenda, attend the meeting, and talk to your neighbors. Do not use this site to contact or harass anyone.
Our story
Moms for Monitoring was founded in 2024, in a kitchen, after a PTA meeting “got out of hand.” Our founder, Brenda Vandergrift, realized that the problem with local government was not the decisions. It was that the decisions required reading.
What began as a group chat became a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet became a dashboard. The dashboard became a business model. At no point did anyone read the agenda.
Leadership
Brenda Vandergrift
Founder & Chief Concern Officer. Former PTA treasurer, current professional worrier. Brenda has attended 41 school board meetings and read 3 agendas.
Chad Vandergrift
Chief Algorithm Officer, age 12. Built the scoring model during a rain delay. Has never been to a school board meeting, which the company considers an asset.
Dana Pemberton
Director of Incoming Outrage. Responsible for converting alerts into newsletters, newsletters into memberships, and memberships into more alerts.
The Board
A group chat. Meets constantly, decides nothing, forwards everything. The only body at Moms for Monitoring with actual oversight, and it is muted after 9 p.m.
What we believe
- Vigilance is a love language.
- Context is optional. Certainty is not.
- Every agenda is a confession.
- Transparency is for other people.
- If a document requires interpretation, it is probably hiding something.
- A score is a source if you cite it enough.
Corrections
We have never issued one. We have a page explaining why, and a process for fixing anything that could identify a real person. The process is short because the site is fiction.
Why this parody exists
Products like AWARE promise parents early warning about school board decisions. Early warning is not inherently bad. But a 1–10 score generated from keywords, delivered without the source document, and amplified by a national network turns civic participation into a reaction. It rewards speed over understanding and certainty over accuracy.
The satire is not that parents care. The satire is that a machine can monetize caring by removing the part where anyone learns anything.
Still here?
Good. Now go read a school board agenda. We hear Tuesday is going to be wild.
